Organization Background Information: The SHE RECOVERS® Foundation started out in 2011 as a passion project initiated by two women in long term recovery (Dawn Nickel and her daughter, Taryn Strong). In spring 2020, SHE RECOVERS became a 501(c)(3) public charity and today is a growing and evolving community serving women in the United States and beyond who are in or seeking recovery from substance use disorders, mental health issues, trauma, and related life challenges. The mission of our nonprofit organization is to inspire hope, reduce stigma, and empower women (and non-binary individuals who identify with women’s communities) to increase recovery capital, heal themselves, and help other women to do the same. When women heal, families heal, and communities do too.
