On July 1st, Connecticut will close its supermax prison, Northern Correctional Institution. I had hoped this day would come, but I did not know whether I would live to see it.

No other graduating class has experienced a global pandemic, racial reckonings and uprisings for black lives, climate catastrophes, assaults on our democracy, and an insurrection. And that's just in the last twelve months.

It’s time for a critical mass of us to affirm the dignity and humanity of all, to mourn ALL who have been killed, and looking at last week, that means specifically taking into our hearts the children killed by Israel’s bombs and Hamas’ rockets, and say to their families — We see you.
