I wrote this book as a song for my daughter before she began preschool. On our walks to the ocean, we marveled at the plants and birds and trees we found along the way. Her eyes filled with wonder. I realized that I did not need to teach my daughter how to wonder—I only had to protect what she already knew. And so this song began…
Wonder Baby says,
“Wow! Woah!
You’re a part of me
I don’t yet know”
We wondered about little crabs and seashells… and about the people walking by. New verses unfurled in all directions—we wondered about people who are hurting, about those who cause the hurt, and about our own feelings. Our wonder led to new insights and exciting connections. I wrote down the verses—and this book was born.
World of Wonder invites us on a journey with Wonder Baby. We wonder about the earth and discover the awe that inspires care. We wonder about people suffering injustice and find that listening to stories inspires courage. We wonder about someone who inflicts cruelty—and discover the power of repair and connection. Wonder Baby wonders about their own emotions, even when tears come pouring down: “You are a part of me I don’t yet know.” Wonder becomes the conduit to love: it creates the conditions for internal transformation and courageous action.

World of Wonder distills Revolutionary Love into its essence. It illustrates all three practices of Revolutionary Love—love for others, opponents, and ourselves. It names wonder as the root of love. It affirms that love is our birthright. As Wonder Baby discovers: “When I wonder, my love can grow!” What if all children had this understanding of love as their foundation?
I am proud to announce that the book will be accompanied by the World of Wonder Learning Hub — a free learning hub for parents, families, and early childhood educators on how to practice Revolutionary Love with children. Two years in the making, this resource is brought to you by the phenomenal educators at Revolutionary Love Project. It will go live when the book comes out this August. Stay tuned!
Just before my daughter’s graduation from preschool, an advanced copy of World of Wonder arrived in the mail. Every page is vivid and alive, pulsating with vibrant energy, thanks to illustrator Cynthia Alonso. I got to read the book to my daughter’s class. They were captivated! Soon, all the children were singing with me, “You’re a part of me I don’t yet know.” I have finally stopped crying.
